To have a break from a regular academic work we are happy to assign some life skills activities to our students, as we believe that learning comes in many forms and there are so many activities like-gardening, crafts, cooking etc. which can be done and learn from home and which also contribute to their learning in a broader sense. And our students start their up-cycling project, as a part of their life skill assignment, we started this project by making home-made face mask, as wearing masks has made mandatory for all and when in public it helps to prevent the spread of coronavirus, it’s better to wear your home made mask. And by the end of Day-3 we got amazing response from our wonderful students. Thanks to all the teachers, parents and students of Druk Padma Karpo School for making this project a successful one.
Please ensure that you all Stay home, stay safe and stay healthy.

DPKS thanks parents for encouraging and supporting their kids and most importantly students who are doing their best and learning new things everyday and having fun during this lock down period. Our main motive behind this online class is for the kids to feel connected and joyful with their studies, so seeing kids reading, developing and learning new things makes us feel happy and satisfactory. CELEBRATING LADAKH DAY…

Druk Padma Karpo School celebrated “Ladakh Day” on 1st May, 2020. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to let students aware and know the value and importance of rich Ladakhi culture, dress, cuisine etc. Ladakh has rich tradition, culture, dress, food. Being culturally aware is a great way to promote inclusion. Our students shared some wonderful photos celebrating the “Ladakh Day” at their respective homes. They feel very proud and excited to celebrate this day. The more they aware of their culture, more they will show respect and take pride of their roots. Teachers also actively participated in this event and make the day a great success.

Delighted to share another pride moment for all recently on 11th July, Ladakh Science Foundation- organize a science competition on 'BEST FROM WASTE’ in which our student name Stanzin Idga bagged 3rd position. Congratulations on your achievement, you have made us all proud.

Idga shared her experience “From the very beginning I love art and craft, and recently I started taking interest in converting waste materials like bottles, papers, clothes etc, into nice art and craft or fine products. We are taught art and craft in our school and some of them I learnt from internet. I would like to thanks Ladakh Science Foundation for organizing such a wonderful event. I really enjoyed the whole journey of converting waste material into a fine art piece. This also helps us in reducing waste and to keep our surrounding clean and healthy.”

This day is celebrated every year on 26th July in honour of the Kargil War Heroes’. Kargil Vijay Diwas named after the successful (Operation Vijay). On this date in 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which has been lost to Pakistan. Kargil war was fought for more than two months and ended on 26th July, with India regaining control of all the previously held territory thus marking it as a Kargil Vijay Diwas. This special day is also celebrated at our school with great zeal and enthusiasm in presence of very special guest Subedar Major Honorary Captain Mr. Tashi Tsephel a retire Indian soldier (Ladakh Scout) and a recipient of Vir Chakra ( Vir chakra is an Indian gallantry award presented for acts of gallantry in presence of the enemy on the battlefield), NCC Cadets and few teachers . We are fortunate and honoured to have Subedar Major Honorary Captain Mr. Tashi Tsephel with us on this victory day and he shared his lively experience during Kargil War with us. His experience was inspiring and heart-warming. He is one of the live examples of bravery, courage, patience, persistence and patriotism. We also had poster cum slogan writing competition in which Padma Lamo of 9th standard bagged 1st position followed by a short documentary at school.
We salute to such brave war heroes of our country.

Konrad continues with the slate paving

Some clearing of the mud from the newly laid paving took place while construction continued along the pedestrian axis.

At last the main thoroughfare was finished and visitors were able to enjoy a more comfortable path to walk on.

WORK 4

When the paths along the main pedestrian axis were finished work moved to the classroom area, where slate was used to pave the main routes taken by teachers and students.

WORK 5

Before Konrad left Ladakh he and Tsetan went for a walk around the school to see how many different species of drought tolerant plants they could find. Konrad said “I think we were successful to locate at least five different ones. Some of the plants from the list grow at high altitude or close to water bodies. Our focus was on plants growing on rocks or in the sand that have colour and ornamental value. What we need to do now is to identify them." One you see on a picture below is: Ephedra intermedia.

"We found good source of yellow clump forming plants on a hill outside the school. It’s possible for the plant to be Artemisia santolinifolia."
